Hike... The Buckeye Trail.

Along the BT in East Fork State Park.

Did you know: There is a trail that circles the entire state of Ohio? If so, did you know that it's southern terminus is right here in Cincinnati? The Buckeye Trail follows the path less traveled around the entire state for 1444 miles. A portion of it is located on smaller, less traveled roads, that takes you into the heart of small towns across the state. Other portions take you into the most scenic areas that Ohio has to offer.

Right here in the Cincinnati area, some of my favorite sections are in the East Fork and Caesar's Creek state park regions. These two areas will get you out hiking on trails that most people do not use. Too bad for them. These sections of the BT are very enjoyable, and I would go on to say that they are more enjoyable than most of the trails in those two respective parks. More interesting topography, and less people on the trail? That makes a winner in my book.

The BT winds through many small towns throughout Ohio, like Milford.

Be sure to check the Buckeye Trail association's site here to read a little more detail about this amazing trail, and find the section that you would like to visit first. Some of my personal favorite sections that are a little out of Cincinnati are the Tar Hollow and Hocking Hills state park sections. Nestled in the hills of Southeastern Ohio, be prepared to get a great leg workout due to the long, steep climbs. The great thing about them though, is that they are not too far away from our great city, only around a 2 hour drive. Go hike the sections and still be home for dinner! Sounds good to me!
